Kathmandu – Namibia has made a winning start in Twenty-20 World Cup cricket. In the first match of Group ‘B’ in Bridgetown, Barbados, Namibia defeated Oman in the Super Over.
Batting first in the Super Over, Namibia scored 21 runs. In reply, Oman lost 1 wicket and managed to score only 10 runs. In the Super Over, David Wije and Gerhard Erasmus batted for Namibia, while Bilal Khan bowled for Oman. Similarly, in the Super Over, Oman’s Aqib Ilyas and Jisan Maqsood were stopped by Namibia’s David Wije within 10 runs.
While chasing the target of 110 runs given by Oman, Namibia lost 6 wickets in 20 overs and scored 109 runs. After Mehran Khan’s excellent bowling, Oman drew against Namibia in the first match of the Twenty20 World Cup.
In the last over, Namibia needed only 5 runs to win, but lost one wicket after another. Mehran Khan, who bowled very economically, took 2 wickets in the first and third balls of the last over. Similarly, he bowled the second ball of the last over and gave 1 run in the fourth ball, 2 runs in the fifth ball and 1 run in the sixth ball.
Jane Frylink scored 45 runs for Namibia. Likewise, Nicholas Devin scored 24 runs while captain Gerhard Erasmus scored 13 runs.
For Oman, Mehran Khan took 3 wickets giving only 7 runs in 3 overs. Similarly, Bilal Khan, Aqib Ilyas and Ayan Khan took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, Oman, who lost the toss and batted first, lost all wickets in 19.4 overs and were bundled out for 109 runs. Oman’s Khalid Kail scored the highest 34 runs. Similarly, Jisan Maqsood scored 22 runs, Ayan Khan scored 15 runs and Shakeel Ahmed scored 11 runs. Other batsmen could not score runs in double figures.
Ruben Trumpelman took 4 wickets for Namibia. He spent 21 runs in 4 overs. Similarly, David Wiege took 3 wickets, Gerhard Erasmus took 2 wickets and Bernard Scholz took 1 wicket.
