The former captain of the Indian team, MS Dhoni, has indicated that he will play in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni has said that he wants to enjoy this game for a few more years.
Dhoni said at a promotional event on Friday, ‘As a child, we used to go out to play at 4 pm and enjoy the game. But when you are playing a professional game, it becomes difficult to enjoy cricket as a game. I want to do this. It’s not difficult. I want to enjoy this game for a few more years. I have to keep myself fit for 9 months, so that I can play IPL for two and a half months.’
So far, Dhoni has not confirmed anything about his availability. Dhoni is scheduled to attend the Chennai Super Kings management meeting on October 29-30, but there has been no official statement regarding his participation.
Last date for submission of retention list for IPL is 31 October. A decision about Dhoni will have to be taken in the CSK management meeting itself.
Dhoni has been playing for Chennai since the first season of IPL. He has now left the captaincy. Ruturaj Gaikwad captained Chennai last season. But the team could not reach the playoffs. Chennai won 5 titles under Dhoni’s captaincy.
Dhoni played 11 matches in the last season of IPL. He scored 110 runs at a strike rate of 224.48.
