Kathmandu. With the help of captain Rashid Khan’s record-breaking bowling, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh and entered the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Afghanistan won by 8 runs on the basis of DLS method in Group 1 match of Super 8.
After achieving a target of 114 runs in 19 overs, Bangladesh lost all wickets in 17.5 overs and managed to score only 150 runs. With Afghanistan’s victory, former champions Australia have been eliminated from the tournament.
Afghanistan will now face South Africa in the semi-finals. India will play England in the next semi-final.
Opener Litton Das scored the highest 54 runs for Bangladesh. He remained not out and hit 5 fours and 1 six in 49 balls.
Similarly, Tohid Hridoy added 14 runs in 9 balls. Similarly, Soumya Sarkar contributed 10 runs in 10 balls.
Captain Rashid Khan took 4 wickets by spending 23 runs in 4 overs with deadly bowling. He also became the fastest player to take 150 wickets in T20 Internationals. He broke the record of Team Southee of New Zealand. Naveen Ul Haq also took 4 wickets with 26 runs in 3.5 overs.
Earlier, Afghanistan, who won the toss and batted first, scored 115 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributed the most 43 runs for Afghanistan. He hit 3 fours and 1 six off 55 balls.
Captain Rashid Khan added 19 runs in 10 balls. He hit 3 sixes. Similarly, Ibrahim Zadran scored 18 runs in 29 balls and Azmatullah Omarzai scored 10 runs in 12 balls.
Rishad Hossain took 3 wickets for Bangladesh who bowled hard. He spent 26 runs in 4 overs. Similarly, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took 1 wicket each.
