Final match for Bangladesh
One squad prepares for its first game. The other is already in a situation where it must win. Since there are only six teams competing in the Asia Cup, which only started four days ago, Bangladesh is facing the possibility of being eliminated while Afghanistan is just getting started.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh are also capable of produce a heated match, but the India-Pakistan rivalry and the Naagin derby have received all the attention so far. However, Bangladesh will be under extreme pressure after their lackluster performance in their opening encounter. With the exception of Najmul Hossain Shanto, the batsmen were weak, and the bowlers struggled to apply consistent pressure.
The action now shifts to Lahore, a location that is still fairly uncharted for both sides. The last time Bangladesh played an ODI at the Gaddafi Stadium was in 2008, and Mushfiqur Rahim will be the only member of that team to play on Sunday. It will be Afghanistan’s first-ever international match in Pakistan.
Afghanistan enters this match after losing to Pakistan 0-3; much will hinge on how well their top order performs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmat Shah, who have contributed the majority of runs in ODIs since the year 2022 began, are greatly reliant on them.
Once you get through them, Bangladesh will believe they are in control. Rahmat has been off of form and was even benched for the second and third ODIs against Pakistan, compounding their problems.
In the middle order, Riaz Hassan, who has only played five ODIs, Najibullah Zadran, who is making a full recovery from a knee injury, and Karim Janat, who hasn’t participated in an ODI in six years, are the players. But the recent ODI series victory over Bangladesh will give Afghanistan more self-assurance.
Early on, Bangladesh will need to be cautious, especially when facing Fazalhaq Farooqi’s left-arm pace, which caused the most damage in that ODI series.
The Asia Cup 2023 match will start at 3 p.m. IST on September 3 in Lahore. The campaign’s fourth game is currently underway. This is Afghanistan’s first game, whereas this is Bangladesh’s second. The Tigers’ first match was a loss against Sri Lanka. With five wickets and 11 overs remaining, the Lankans were able to successfully chase down the necessary 165 runs to win.
Shakib Al Hasan is in charge of Bangladesh. Following Tamim Iqbal’s resignation as Bangladesh’s ODI captain, he assumed the position. In 11 ODIs this year, he has been in excellent form, hitting 376 runs and taking 11 wickets.
Bangladesh has put together a talented team with a solid balance of youth and experience. The team’s most seasoned players are Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Shakib. Das, who missed the opening game, has, regrettably, been eliminated from the competition due to a viral fever. According to sources, Anamul Haque has been picked as his replacement.
With the ball, Mustafizur Rahim will lead the pace attack along with Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam. Ebadot Hossain is ruled out with a knee injury.
Hasmatullah Shahidi is the president of Afghanistan. The captain must take the lead with the bat. Najibullah Zadran’s re-entry bolsters their middle-order. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, the top of their order, must score the majority of the runs, though.
Rashid, Mujeeb, and Nabi’s spin attack with the ball holds the key. The seam attack will be led by Fazalhaq Farooqi, but Afghanistan lacks a reliable bowler to support him. Naveen Ul-Haq and Fareed Ahmed have been dropped.
At the Asia Cup 2022, Afghanistan won matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the league stage but lost matches in the Super Four stage. When comparing BAN versus AFG, both teams have played 14 one-day internationals, with Afghanistan winning 6 and Bangladesh winning 8. Afghanistan has won six of the 11 Test matches, compared to Bangladesh’s five. Each side has triumphed in a Test match.
