Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center) lawmaker Devendra Poudel has accused of attempting to divert the focus of another investigation committee towards the gold smuggling case.
He emphasized that the investigation committee should not be formed until a conclusion is reached regarding the gold smuggling case.
Poudel urged the main opposition party, Nepal Communist Party (NCP), to refrain from engaging in debates on such matters. He questioned, “Opposition, what does ‘waiting off’ mean? Is it not a government within a government? What will be the situation when the opposition enters the government?,” adding, “If you don’t understand, form another committee. Don’t hinder the decision-making process of the current committee.”
He accused the NCP of not allowing the Parliament to function. “This house belongs to all of us. It’s not only for the opposition. You’ve halted the Parliament. Let the Parliament function and hear everyone’s concerns,” he said.
Poudel revealed that the gold smuggling case was already being investigated by the government. “Previously, there was a Prime Minister, a Home Minister. The gold smuggling issue is still ongoing. The government is already investigating it. Why wasn’t it investigated before?,” he questioned.
He addressed the need to differentiate between right and wrong messaging, implying that the NCP is sending incorrect messages. He expressed concern that agencies like the CIAA (Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority), Revenue Investigation Department, and Property Verification were formed by the parties themselves, urging them not to raise concerns over such matters.
