Nepal’s national cricket team is preparing for the upcoming ACC (Asian Cricket Council) Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next month. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced that the Nepali team will undergo a specialized training for 15 days in Sri Lanka. This will mark Nepal’s first participation in the Asia Cup. In the past, Nepal had secured a spot in the Asia Cup after winning the title in the ACC Premier Cup held in Kathmandu in the month of Baisakh.
The training in Sri Lanka will include four practice matches, as stated by CAN. The Asia Cup cricket tournament is set to take place from August 30 to September 17, with matches scheduled in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Nepal will play its first match against Pakistan in Multan on August 30, followed by a match against India on September 4.
This tournament will be held in Sri Lanka, with two strong cricket nations, India and Pakistan, being part of Nepal’s group in Group A. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are part of Group B. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage, where they will play against each other. The top two teams from the Super Four will compete in the final.
In the previous ACC Emerging Teams Cup held in Sri Lanka, Nepal was eliminated in the group stage from Group B. Nepal suffered defeats against Pakistan and India by four and nine wickets respectively. However, in the match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nepal secured a three-wicket victory on Wednesday, boosting their confidence ahead of the Asia Cup.
