Kathmandu, June 22: Along with incessant rain, various roads have been blocked due to landslides in different parts of the country. Due to non-stopping of rains, road blockages are increasing. Due to floods in the Terai, settlements have been inundated.
Walling (Syangja): The Siddharth Highway has been blocked at various places due to landslides that came with incessant rain. Since Thursday night, the Siddharth Highway connecting Sunauli-Pokhara has caused landslides in places. District Police Office Deputy Superintendent of Police and Police Spokesman Indra Bahadur Rana informed that the road was blocked due to a landslide near Bhirkot-4 Changchangdi on the Syangja-Waling road this morning.
This year, the district is receiving heavy rains. Walling-1 Kalimati of Siddharth Highway has also been blocked due to landslides. Due to continuous rains, it is difficult to re-operate the road.
Although one-way traffic has been operated after removing landslides in some places of Siddharth Highway, it will take time to fully operate due to landslides in many places. Along with Siddharth highway, other roads in rural areas are also blocked by landslides. Passengers stopped on the way.
Kamalamai (Sindhuli): VP highway has been blocked due to landslides. The road was blocked by a landslide in Sunkosi Rural Municipality-2 Kamirephant of Sindhuli.
According to Chief Superintendent of Police of Sindhuli District Police Office, Govindaraj Kafle, traffic services have been halted since this morning due to landslides from the highway.
Hundreds of vehicles have been stuck on the road since morning when the highway was blocked. Passengers are stranded. Due to continuous rain, there is a problem in opening the blocked highway. Superintendent of Police Kafle said that the landslide is being removed with the help of dozers.
Meanwhile, Golanjor Rural Municipality-6 Akrevir and Fikkal Rural Municipality-2 Sunambensi, which are under the Madhyamhadi highway, were also blocked by landslides since the morning. According to the police, the transport service has been operated in the area now after removing the landslide.
Landslide on Hetauda-Kathmanda road section
Makwanpur: The Sisneri-Dakshinkali road section connecting Hetauda-Kathmandu has been blocked due to landslides due to rain since morning. According to Makwanpur district police office, the road was blocked due to a landslide in Indrasarovar-2 Chhepare of Makwanpur under the said road section.
Due to a large landslide, the road cannot be opened immediately. As the road to Kathmandu through Sisneri has been blocked, the police have requested to use other roads.
Similarly, the road towards Bhimfedi-Fakhel has also been blocked due to landslides. The Bhimphedi-Fakhel-Matatirth road section has been blocked due to a landslide in Indrasarovar-5 Mahalakshmi river, police said.
Similarly, the Lalitpur section of Kanti Rajpath has been blocked since this morning due to a landslide. A landslide has also occurred in Panjure (near Bhattedanda) in Bagmati Rural Municipality-3 of Lalitpur. Makwanpur police spokesperson Laxmi Bhandari informed that efforts are being made to clear the road after removing the landslide. Transport services are in operation on Tribhuvan Rajpath, Hetauda-Faparbari-Sindhuli section and East-West Highway.
Bensisahar-Chame road blocked
Lamjung: Beisin Sahar Chame road has been blocked due to landslide. According to Dumre Bensisahar Chame Road Planning Office, the road was completely blocked when a landslide occurred from above the Hawadanda road in Masryangdi Rural Municipality-4, Lamjung district, under this road.
Kiran Pokharel, information officer of the office, said that there was a big landslide in that place and there was a problem to remove the landslide. Vehicles are stuck on the road after the landslide blocked the road. Information officer Pokharel said that the road could not be put into operation until now after the Kathe bridge and Motorrewal bridge were swept away by the floods in Chame rural municipality-1 Timang River last Tuesday.
Ghorahi-Tulsipur road blocked
Tulsipur (Dang): The diversion constructed in Sewar Khola under the Ghorahi-Tulsipur road section of Dang has been washed away. The flood washed away the diversion this morning. Traffic is blocked at that place. District administration office Dang has requested to use alternative road. Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city-16 Sewar Khola has a four-lane concrete bridge incomplete.
Flood inundates various places in Birganj
Parsa: Due to continuous rain since last night, various wards of Virgunj Metropolitan City of Parsa have been flooded. Chhapkaiya, Bazarchhapkaiya, Ghadiarwa, Ranighat, Sripur, Nagwa, Radhemai and other places of the metropolitan city have been flooded.
Water has accumulated on the road and started entering the houses of the locals. Sarfuddin Mia, Head of Sanitation Branch of Virgunj Metropolitan Municipality informed that equipment and personnel have been introduced since morning to drain the frozen water. Cleaning of drains is going on in the flooded areas.
The farmers here are happy after the rain. They are happy with the hope of being able to plant after the rains. Parsa has a total of 54,500 hectares of arable land. Of this, 47,000 hectares are cultivated with rice.
Residents near rivers and streams are urged to be cautious
Belbari (Morang): Residents near rivers and streams have been asked to be cautious as there will be more rain this year than last year. Rudra Bahadur Pariyar, Head of Water and Meteorology Office, Dharan, urged the residents of Koshi and Madhesh provinces to be alert as there will be more than average rainfall this year.
“There is a possibility of sudden floods even in small rivers”, he said. Assistant Chief District Officer of Morang Pradeep Sah said that discussions are being held with the heads of local level, heads of security agencies, local representatives of political parties and others to reduce the damage caused by rain. He said that the head of the office has been instructed not to leave the district because disaster can occur at any time due to flood and landslide.
Karnali Highway Awarud
Kankrevihar (Surkhet): The Kalikot section of the Karnali highway has been blocked due to a landslide due to the rain since Friday. Landslides have blocked the road in places like Hulme Bazar in Kalikot. As the road was blocked, the vehicles bound for Surkhet-Jumla were stopped on the way. Bir Bahadur Oli, information officer of the provincial police office, informed that efforts are being made to open the road.
