Kathmandu. In the last few days, you must have seen graphics on social media that read ‘All eyes on Rafah’. Especially this graphic is going viral on Instagram stories. It is also being shared on Facebook, Tiktok, Threads, X, Reddit and other social networks.
Many Nepali celebrities have also shared this post on Instagram and other platforms. So far, this post has been shared by more than 40 million Instagram accounts.
The story was posted to warn against the Israeli repression in Rafah city located in the southern Gaza of Palestine. Israel has intensified its attack in that place now.
45 people lost their lives and more than 200 were injured in the Israeli air attack on Sunday. After the Israeli army increased its attack on Rafah, which has a high population density, a post with the slogan ‘All Eyes on Rafah’ started going viral on social media.
Now this post is being shared by users from Western Europe, Australia, Asia etc. But this is not a recent campaign.
This slogan first came from the words of Rick Pepperkorn, Director of the Office of the Occupied Palestinian Territory of the World Health Organization. After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave the green signal to go to war, Peppercorn responded last February saying ‘All eyes on Rafah’.
This phrase can be understood as a warning to Israel and not to hide the human race from what is happening in the city of Rafah. It is said that since Israel started attacking Gaza, 1.4 million people have moved to other places.
Organizations and lobbying groups such as Save the Children, Oxfam, Americans for Justice in Palestine Action, Jewish Voice for Peace, and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign continued to repeat the phrase. In addition, it was directly used in protests in cities such as Paris, London, New York, and Los Angeles.
Just this week, Australian cricketer Travis Head, British singer Leigh Ann Pinnock, model Bella Hadid and actresses Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Susan Sarandon shared photos with the phrase on their Instagram stories.
Similarly, Varun Dhawan, Ali Goni, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tripti Dimri and other Indian celebrities also shared. After that, this post started to be shared in Nepal as well.
