Agency: Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 4 wickets in the eliminator match of Indian Premier League IPL. Along with this, while Rajasthan managed to secure a place for Qualifier 2, Bengaluru is out of the competition.
Rajasthan captained by Sanju Samson will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2. The winning team will play Kolkata Knight Riders for the title.
RCB scored 172 runs in the match at Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday night. Virat Kohli scored 33 runs and Mahipal Lomar scored 32 runs in 17 balls in the last over to take Bangalore to this score. While chasing the target, the Rajasthan team had a steady start but the run rate did not increase in the middle overs, so both the teams were in the same situation. Important innings by Ryan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell boosted Rajasthan Royals’ run rate.
Chasing a target of 173 runs, the opener of Rajasthan Royals scored 45 runs without losing any wicket in 5 overs. But in the sixth over, Tom Koehler Cadmore was dismissed for 20 off 15 balls. Although Swapnil Singh scored 17 runs in an over, RCB’s bowlers controlled the run rate to a large extent after that.
On the first ball of the 11th over, Karn Sharma stumped captain Sanju Samson and gave Rajasthan a big blow. Samson scored 17 runs off 13 balls. Dhruv Jurel was run out by Virat Kohli in the 14th over. By 15 overs, Rajasthan scored 126 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. 47 runs were left in 5 overs to win. As 28 runs were scored in the next 2 overs, RR only needed 19 runs in 3 overs.
Simron Hetmire was dismissed for 26 runs in the last ball of the 18th over. Rovman Powell scored 14 runs off Lockie Ferguson’s over to ensure Rajasthan’s victory by 4 wickets with 6 balls to spare. Mohammad Siraj of RCB took 2 wickets.
Batting first, Rajat Patidar scored 34 runs for Bengaluru while Kohli added 33 runs. Similarly, captain Faf du Plessis departed after playing 17 runs after 27 runs from the bat of Camnor Green. Dinesh Karthik added 11 runs.
Avesh Khan took three wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets for Rajasthan.
