Kathmandu, November 18th. The government has activated the (ETC) in the Ministry of Communication to manage the information and communication system of the earthquake-affected areas. A meeting held at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on the call of the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma decided to activate the cluster.
The meeting has decided to request the service providers to resume telephone and internet services in the earthquake affected areas and the Nepal Telecommunication Authority will coordinate, monitor and manage resource mobilization as needed.
Similarly, the meeting also decided that the service providers should appoint contact points and contact persons to make the service effective and stay in constant contact.
The meeting decided to request all media and social network users to transmit truthful, reliable and official news from the earthquake-affected areas, informed Narendra KC, a communication expert of the Minister of Communication and Information Technology. The meeting also decided to stay in constant contact with the central and district emergency centers.
In the meeting, officials of Nepal Telecom informed that the basic telecommunication services are free in the earthquake-affected areas.
The meeting was attended by Minister Sharma, Ministry Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut, Heads and representatives of the telecommunication and mass media sectors including Nepal Telecommunication Technology, Nepal Telecom, Nepal Journalists and Journalists Association.
