BBC: Iran’s Nargis Mohammadi has won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Committee decided to award her the prize for her struggle against oppression of women and for her initiatives for human rights and freedom for all. Mohammadi is currently in a prison in Tehran. Prizes will be distributed to the winners on December 10. The prison has been criticized by Western human rights organizations for torture, threats of indefinite detention and lack of access to health facilities. A video released by hackers in 2021 showed prisoners being beaten by security guards. Iranian authorities have arrested him 13 times. She has been convicted five times. Mohammadi has been accused of spreading propaganda against the government, according to Reuters. He was sentenced to 31 years in prison and ordered to be flogged 154 times.
