After a day of continuous rainfall on Sunday, a flood in the Trishuli River has washed away the Jholunge Bridge in Hiklung. Bhim Lal Chepang, a local resident of the affected area, provided information about the damage caused by the high flow of the Trishuli River on Sunday night.
“The flood in Trishuli was so massive that the bridge couldn’t withstand it,” he said. “The bridge’s foundation has been eroded. The bridge has collapsed.”
He mentioned that now it’s impossible to cross, and they are concerned about how people from areas like Hiklung, Thumka, Balaki, and Korak will travel across the Trishuli River. “Now, whether to wait or to take a risky journey on the bridge with missing planks, that’s the dilemma,” he added.
While there is a bridge over the Trishuli River in Kaudifant above and Hugdi below, these options are not favorable for the local residents of this region. This bridge, known as Jholunge Bridge, was constructed in the year 2075 B.S. (2018 AD) in Hiklung, Ward No. 6 of Gandaki Gaunpalika in Gorkha, connecting with Prithvi Raj Marg in Benighat Rorang. Prior to this, there was a Tuin (a type of makeshift rope bridge) at this location.
