Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) Chairman KP Sharma Oli expressed dissatisfaction with the sequence of events during his visit to India, stating that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda did not prioritize the country’s interests in some matters. Speaking at the current international situation and Nepal foreign policy related interactions organized in Kathmandu on Saturday Chairman Oli voiced his concerns about not being able to do much for the country’s interests during his previous visits to India.
He emphasized that there were no concrete agreements or deals made during his past visits. He said Despite being the Prime Minister I couldn’t achieve much in the interest of the country. No substantial discussions took place, neither regarding the EPG (Eminent Persons Group) report nor about our border issues. Many important matters were left untouched and the need and interests of Nepal were not addressed properly. The focus was more on self-interest and less on national interests.
Chairman Oli also mentioned the necessity of holding candid discussions with China regarding the border issues as the border disputes are bilateral matters with China. He questioned how the border issue can be resolved with Japan but not with China. He stressed the importance of open dialogue with neighboring countries and stated If we cannot talk to our friends what is the use of having such power and government? Why should we visit if we cannot raise our concerns?
This statement reflects Chairman Oli concerns about the previous visits and the need for effective dialogue and focus on Nepal’s national interests during bilateral interactions with neighboring countries.
