The victims have complained that dozens of Nepali doctors’ ‘J One’ visa applications were rejected in the same manner by the US Embassy in Kathmandu. They went to the American Embassy in Kathmandu for a visa interview last week and their visas were rejected. Those who were matched for medical residency in the US applied for the Exchange Visitor Visa ‘J One’ to come to the US for the residency course.
In January, after the United State Medical Licensing Examination USMLE program canceled the scores obtained by Nepalese candidates, it was difficult for Nepali doctors whose scores were not canceled to get a match for residency in the United States. However, some doctors were accepted for residency in the US. But after their visas were rejected by the American Embassy in Kathmandu, they became worried about their future.
After the visa was rejected in the same manner, those who are waiting for the appointment for the visa in the coming weeks are also worried. In addition to rejecting J Wan visa applications, the embassy has also canceled the previous visitor visas of some people. Referring to USMLE canceling the scores of some Nepali doctors in the past, some of them also complained that the visa officer used abusive words on them.

A spokesperson of the US Department of State has said about this – ‘The US Department of State is committed to facilitating cultural exchange and mobility of international medical students through programs such as the Bridge USA Physician Exchange. We recognize the important cultural, economic, and community contributions that physician assistants bring to America’s cities and towns.’
The State Department said it could not discuss details of individual visa cases, noting that visa records remain confidential under US law. All visa applications will be decided on the individual merits of the applicants in accordance with the Immigration and Nationality Act and the provisions of the US State Department. The U.S. Department of State recommends that J-One visa applicants in Nepal contact the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu if they have questions about their application.
