Kathmandu: Monty Desai has arrived in Nepal to serve as the head coach of the Nepali national cricket team for the preparation of the Asian Games.
On Friday afternoon, head coach Desai arrived in Kathmandu. Nepal did not have Desai when they played in the group stage of the Asia Cup.
For the Asian Games athletes, Nepal has begun training in Tri-Bhuvan Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, starting from Wednesday. Nepal will be competing in Group Stage at the 19th Asian Games in China, which will take place from September 23.
Nepal will be playing against Mongolia and Maldives in the group stage, with the matches scheduled for September 27 against Mongolia and October 1 against Maldives. The games will be in T20 format.
Nepal is currently ranked 17th in T20 cricket in the world, while Maldives is at the 80th position. Mongolia does not have ICC T20 international status.
Nepal has announced Rohit Paudel as the captain of the team for the Asian Games.
The team includes wicketkeeper Ashif Sheikh, Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla, Sandeep Jora, Vinod Bhandari, Dipendra Singh Airee, Vivek Yadav, Gulshan Jha, Karan KC, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, Pratishthan Jisi, Lalit Rajbanshi, and Avinash Bohara.
After a few days of training in Nepal, the Nepali team will head to China for the competition.
