Rahul Mahara, the son of former Speaker and Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center) central leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara, has admitted to having phone contact with individuals involved in smuggling 9 kilograms of gold inside electric cigarettes (BHEP).
However, he has stated that it’s incorrect to assume his involvement in criminal activities just because he had contact with someone, and he denies any association with criminal activities.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has confirmed the phone conversations between Rahul Mahara and the gold smugglers.
Despite this confirmation Rahul expressed his dissatisfaction with the media for spreading misinformation specifically emphasizing that he is not involved in any criminal activities even when in contact with certain individuals.
Rahul Mahara, the son of Mahara, posted on social media on Monday, “We have already made it clear that we are cooperating fully with the investigation related to this matter, and it is wrong to spread misinformation that we are involved in criminal activities when in contact with someone due to misunderstanding.”
He also mentioned that they are ready to undergo legal proceedings if found guilty despite their willingness to cooperate with the investigation into the matter by the state authorities.
He stated We have made it clear that we are fully cooperating in the matter that the state authorities are investigating and we are ready to be a lawful participant if verified.
Rahul expressed that they are supportive of the investigation and are willing to be law abiding participants as long as the process adheres to the law.
He mentioned We have been facing repeated allegations in various media outlets regarding unverified matters that have caused us distress.
It is not only wrong but also unjust to accuse us repeatedly of criminal activities without proper verification, even when there is no confirmation from the police investigation.”
Rahul concluded by stating that they are fully ready to support the investigation conducted by the state authorities and are willing to cooperate in a legal manner as long as the process adheres to the law.

In regards to us there has been ongoing distress caused by repeated allegations in various media outlets. It is not only incorrect but also deeply distressing to repeatedly accuse us of serious charges without any verification and to insinuate character assassination involvement in heinous crimes and a pursuit of tarnishing our political career.
In situations where the media repeatedly makes unverified allegations it is not appropriate to aggressively seek confirmation but rather the course of action should be to approach the judiciary. We are not oblivious to the orchestrated attacks coming from certain media outlets.
We want to clarify that we have made it clear from the very beginning that having contact with someone doesn’t necessarily mean being involved in criminal activities due to misconceptions. Spreading such allegations and misleading news is incorrect.
We are fully committed to cooperating with the state authorities investigation into the subject matter and are willing to be active participants in accordance with the law.
