Dinesh Kumar Ghimire Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising Executive Director of NEA, officials from the National Automobiles Association of Nepal and users of electric vehicles were present during the program. NEA has already implemented a policy to encourage electric vehicle adoption in urban areas. It aims to convert vehicles that are fueled by petrol and diesel to electric power.

NEA has constructed 51 charging stations across various locations in the country to support the increased use of electric vehicles. The process of building an additional 13 stations is also underway. Furthermore NEA has provided special facilities in charging stations and transformer installations for free up to the EV charging stations locations.

The total number of electric vehicles has been increasing as NEA’s efforts to raise the consumption of electricity and promote the use of EVs continue. In the fiscal year 2077/78 the import of four-wheel electric vehicles (cars and jeeps) was around 4,570 units which increased to 5,070 units in the last fiscal year.

The number of electric two-wheelers imported in three years is 26,260. Additionally, NEA has informed that 60 electric buses have been imported. This shows the increasing trend of using electric vehicles in Nepal.
