Kathmandu – Sri Lanka created history and won the women’s Asia Cup cricket title. The home team Sri Lanka won the title by defeating India by 8 wickets in the final in Dambulla.
Captain Chamari Athapatthu scored 61 runs and Harshita Samarawickrama scored 69 runs in Sri Lanka’s victory. These two shared 87 runs for the second wicket.
Sri Lanka became the champion for the first time in the Women’s Asia Cup which started in 2004. Earlier, Sri Lanka finished as runners-up five times.
After winning the toss, India batted first and scored 165 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. For him, Smriti Mandhana hit 10 fours while playing an explosive innings of 60 runs off 47 balls.
Similarly, Richa Ghosh scored 30 runs while Jemima Rodriguez scored 29 runs. While Kavisa Dilhari took 2 wickets for Sri Lanka, Udesi skipper Sachini Nisansala took 1 wicket.
Chasing a target of 166 runs, Sri Lanka performed brilliantly and completed the target by losing 2 wickets with 8 balls remaining.
Sri Lanka lost the first wicket by 7 runs but shared high runs for the second wicket. For him, captain Chamari Athapatthu scored 61 runs off 43 balls with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes, while Harshitha Samaravikrama played an unbeaten innings of 69 runs off 51 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. Kavisa Dilhari supported her unbeaten with 30 runs off 16 balls.
