Nepal has seen a diverse range of leadership styles and political eras, from hereditary monarchy to a federal democratic republic. Here is an overview of the prime ministers who have served Nepal:

Early Prime Ministers (Rana Era)

  • Jung Bahadur Rana (1846-1877): Established the Rana autocracy and served as the first prime minister under the Rana regime.
  • Rana Successors: Followed by other Rana rulers including:
    • Ranodip Singh Kunwar (1877-1885)
    • Bir Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana (1885-1901)
    • Dev Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana (1901)

Transition to Democracy

  • Tanka Prasad Acharya (1956-1957): Known for his role in the struggle for democracy.
  • Kunwar Inderjit Singh (1957): Interim leadership.
  • Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala (1959-1960): First democratically elected prime minister of Nepal.
