Chennai. Kolkata Knight Riders won the Indian Premier League title for the third time after winning against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kolkata defeated Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final match on Sunday.
Kolkata chased down the modest target of 114 runs presented by Hyderabad in 10.3 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. Kolkata previously won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014 seasons. Despite reaching the finals in 2021, the team was deprived of the title.
Venkatesh Iyer scored 52 not out for Kolkata. He hit 4 fours and 3 sixes off 26 balls. He was well supported by Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 39 runs off 32 balls. Pat Cummins and Shahbaz Ahmed of Hyderabad took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, Hyderabad, who batted first, scored 113 runs after losing all wickets in 18.3 overs. Hyderabad got off to a very bad start and lost 3 wickets for just 21 runs.
Captain Pat Cummins scored the most 24 runs for the team. Aidan Markrum contributed 20 runs and Henrik Clason scored 16 runs. Apart from Nitish Kumar Reddy scoring 13 runs, no other batsman could score double figures.
Mitchell Starc bowled deadly for Kolkata. He took two wickets in the power play and gave Hyderabad a shock at the start. He spent only 14 runs in 3 overs.
Similarly, Andre Russell took 3 wickets and Harshit Rana took 2 wickets. Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakraborty took 1 wicket each.
