On Saturday night, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) began their 2023/24 season with a game against Lorient. In the game, PSG played without Kylian Mbappé, who was not included in the lineup despite being part of the team’s training routine prior to announcing the squad.
Playing without Mbappé, PSG was held to a draw in the match against Lorient. The champion team had a challenging start as per expectations. Following a recent dispute, PSG and Mbappé had a conversation on Sunday.
After discussions and deliberations, PSG officially confirmed that Mbappé would be included in the squad, and Mbappé also returned to training. The situation, which had previously led to Mbappé being left out of the squad and his posters being removed from the stadium, seems to have been resolved for now.
In the context of the recent developments and discussions, it was not disclosed what other agreements were reached between PSG and Mbappé, whether they had come to mutual understandings on certain matters, or whether Mbappé’s return to the squad included specific conditions.
Previously, PSG had a tough stance and had imposed bans, such as prohibiting the sale of jerseys from their official store, aside from keeping Mbappé out of the team and removing his posters from the stadium. Mbappé had expressed his intention to stay at PSG before, but he also indicated his desire to consider a transfer to another club within a year.
Despite being previously willing to consider offers from other clubs, PSG has retained Mbappé’s position in the club for now. The proposed mega deal from Saudi club Al Hilal, amounting to £259 million, aimed to acquire Mbappé, but it was rejected by Mbappé himself.
In the meantime, PSG’s chief goalscorer Mbappé is expected to reach an agreement within a year’s time. Negotiations are ongoing in his favor. The ongoing controversy between PSG and Mbappé highlights their current conflict.
The situation suggests that Mbappé has been kept for now, considering the prospect of selling him in the coming season to Real Madrid. PSG had signed Mbappé from AS Monaco for £165.7 million in 2017.
Mbappé has been PSG’s main player for the past six years. At present, he has played 260 games and scored 212 goals. He has also secured achievements such as winning five league titles and even the Golden Boot.
