Temple of Pathibhara Devi

From Diktel, the headquarter of Khotang district, 1 km from Thumko called Kailash Mountain in the west. The naturally built Shivlinga shaped structure up to 200 feet in area and height is called Halesi Mahadev. There is complete darkness inside this cave, which has four outer doors. Chinnamasta Bhagwati in Saptari district south bordering area from Rajviraj belongs to Chinnamasta village development committee of Saptari district. The people of Nepal and India have great faith in this temple as it is considered to be one of the Shakti Peeths that fulfill the wishes of Chinnamasta Bhagati. According to ancient history and mythology, Shakrasinhadeva, the fifth generation of Karnataka king Nanyadev, became the king of Simraungadh.

He came to Saptari to spend his life in exile with his minor son Harisinhadeva on the throne. It is said that he installed the idol of Bhagwati as his deity and named the goddess Shakreshwari after himself. Since the goddess did not have a body, it is believed that after some time Chinnamasta began to be called Bhagwati.

From Dharan Bazar in Sunsari district to the east, the place built like a statue by Dhamira is called Budhasubba’s place. The priest of the temple belongs to the Magar caste. Budhasubba was a perfect man of the Rai or Magar caste who hunted with a slingshot. Legend has it that while walking while hunting, I Guleli was buried in the ground and Matyangra was buried in the ground. There is a popular belief that the bamboo shoots there grew from the guleli buried by Budhasubba and since the guleli does not have a tip, the bamboo here also does not have a tip. There is a popular belief that if someone has a stomach ache, they are said to be suffering from Shikari (Budhasubba) and if they are fed with Matyangra, they will be cured. Pigs and goats are sacrificed at this place where a big fair is held on Baisakh Purnima day.

Located on the top of a high mountain named Doladri (Dolagiri) in the northeastern part of Bhaktapur district, this temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples in Nepal. Although there is no clear information about when and by whom this temple was built, it is said that a person named Haridatta Varma established Changunarayan in the year 386 Saka Sambat (AD 521) during the establishment of the 4 Narayans of the valley (Changunarayan, Sheshanarayan, Visankhunarayan and Ichangunarayan). There is a story. It is mentioned that in Saka Samvat 386 (521 B.S.) King Mandev controlled the feudatories of the east and west and worshiped Changunarayan and erected a pillar with an eagle.

Guhyeshwari Temple

Located on the banks of the Bagmati River near the Pashupati Temple, this temple is glorious in religious, historical, cultural and artistic terms and is the center of faith of Hindus. Guhyeshwari Shaktipeeth is believed to have been established in the Lichchavi period and the temple was built in the Malla period, so here you can see unique examples of Lichchavi period sculpture and Malla period woodwork.

It is believed to be a temple of Sati Devi (Parvati), the consort of Lord Shiva, built on the south bank of the Bagmati river in the Mandapa style, surrounded by pati pouas. It is also said that in ancient times, Adyaguru Shankaracharya came to observe this place and worshiped and prayed to Guhyeshwari. Guhyeshwari is worshiped according to the Tantric Bajrayana Buddhist tradition, and this place is considered sacred for both Hindu and Buddhist communities.

There is a famous Buddhist temple and stupa, which is included in the World Heritage List, on the top of the hill named Mandapagiri, located in the western part of Kathmandu Valley. Swayambhu Bhagavan is said to have originated at this place. A big festival is held here on the full moon day of Vaishakh, when Buddha was born, attained Buddha’s knowledge and attained Buddha’s nirvana. Near Battar in Nuwakot district Devighat shrine is located at the confluence of Trishuli river coming from Gosaikund in Rasuwa district and Tadi Khola (Surymati river) coming from Suryakunda in Rasuwa district. There is a famous Jalpa Devi temple at this place. A big fair is held here every year on Chaitra Shuklapurnima and Haribodhini Ekadashi.

Devghat

It is mentioned in the Nepal Mahatmya that since the confluence of Saptagandaki river at Devghat, a holy pilgrimage site of Hindus under Devghat Rural Municipality of Tanahun district, one can get rid of all sins by bathing in this place, and if one sacrifices one’s life here, one can get Kaivalya liberation. It is also called Harihar region because it is located on the banks of Saptagandaki river, which is the confluence of Hariganga (Kali Gandaki) and Harganga (Trishuli) rivers. Somewhere it is also called Adiprayag. A big fair is held at this place on the day of Maghe Sankranti. For the systematic development of this religiously glorious place, a Devghat Area Development Committee has been formed by combining some parts of Tanahun, Nawalparasi and Chitwan districts.

Located in Gorkha district, this temple has an idol of Durga Bhavani. King Ramshah’s queen was a woman with the power of a goddess. Muktinath

There is a temple of Muktinath in the Himalayan region of Mustang district. Muktinath is located at 280 24′ latitude and 830 30′ longitude. Baglung Kalika Temple

To the east of Baglung Bazar, the headquarters of Baglung district, there is a magnificent temple of Goddess Kalika inside the high altitude (tar) elephant forest at the confluence of Kaligandaki and Kathekhola. There is a legend that after King Mukundasena of Palpa gave his daughter in marriage to Pratapnarayan Malla, the then King of the mountains, he gave an idol of Kalika as a dowry, and that idol was installed in the temple. There is a custom to fill the temple with panchabali offerings on the day of Chaitrashtami. Currently, Baglung Bazar has been renamed as Kalika Municipality.

Vikram Baba

Within the Chitwan National Park, about 21 km south of Narayangadh, there is Bikram Baba’s place on the bank of the river. Vikram Baba belongs to the Tharu caste. At that place, on the occasion of Chaite Dashain, a big procession is held in memory of Devbhakta Tharu. Pilgrims come from different places of the country including Lamjung, Tanahun, Kaski, Gorkha, Makwanpur, Kathmandu and Nawalparasi. Especially newly married couples come here.

There is a place of Daunne Devi on Daunne hill in Butwal Narayangadh section of Mahendra Highway in Nawalparasi district. There is a legend that there was an ashram and meditation place of Parashurama in this place in ancient times. Daunegarhi is located right between Nawalpur and Parasi, two major areas of Nawalparasi district. Nawalpur settlement is believed to have been founded by Nawalsingh, while it is believed that the word Parashuram was derived from the word Parashu, Paraso, and became Parasi, and it is believed that Nawalparasi is a combination of both.

Supadeurali Mandirpani in Arghakhanchi district is one of the famous Shakti Peeths in Nepal . As mentioned in the religious texts, it is mentioned that when Maharishi Pandini came to this temple for penance, he got the darshan of Lord Shiva on the Nartanachal mountain while climbing up to see the Goddess. Devotees from all over the country and neighboring India also arrive here in the belief that seeing the goddess will fulfill their wishes. Rurukshetra is a holy pilgrimage site and beautiful forest with temples of various gods and goddesses located on the banks of Ruru Ganga and Kaligandaki rivers on the border of Gulmi , Palpa and Syangja districts. There is a popular belief that it is called Rurukshetra because Rurukanya, who nursed an orphan girl in this place by a deer named Ruru, performed great austerities and made this land sacred. A big fair is held here on Maghe Sankranti.

Swargaddhari is a famous religious place located in a lake at an altitude of 6960 feet, about 26 km west of Khalanga, the headquarters of Pyuthan district. It is believed by the scholars that the name of this place has remained Swargadwari according to the legend that sages in the ancient times reached heaven by chanting. From a religious and tourist point of view, this heavenly gate has a concrete temple built with a Shiva linga on top of marble, and around it there are cowsheds with hundreds of cows, picturesque caves, yajnashalas and ponds.

A huge religious fair is held here every year on Baisakh Purnima and Kartik Purnima. Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of Nepal and even from India come here to participate in the fair. Akhand Homa, started by the Mahaprabhu of Swargadwari about 120 years ago, is still going on. Swargadwari also has a Sanskrit Pathshala and a Veda Vidyashram, and students who come from far away to study Vedas and Dharmakarma are also provided with free accommodation and food.

There is a lot of land in Dang as a parcel of that ashram. Swargadwari Ashram can be reached by walking uphill for a few hours from the Bhingri market, and a dirt road has also been constructed from Bhingri market to this ashram. Scholars believe that Swargadwari has gone to stay. Tripura Sundari Baitadi

An idol of Goddess Bhagwati has been installed in this major pilgrimage site of Baitadi district. In mythological times, Bhagwati killed a demon named Tripurasura and relieved the suffering of gods and humans, so it is believed that her name is Tripurasundari Devi. This goddess is also called Ranashayani Bhagwati by the local residents. Due to the natural beauty, a large number of trekkers come to this area every year. There is a popular belief that this area is called Mukti Kshetra, as salvation can be achieved if one performs penance in this area. The idol of Avalokiteshvara and the place where the fire is always lit and the temple where Varuna is worshiped as the deity are also the attractions of Muktinath area.
