Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has asked to be aware of external encroachment and distortion in Nepali folk music.
Inaugurating the open folk song contest organized by the National Folk and Song Foundation Nepal, the Prime Minister said that the music of Nepali identity should be taken seriously.
“Kaljayi songs that have won the hearts of the audience are hanging in the hearts and tongues of Nepali people. However, in recent times, it is felt that even national artists who are famous for going ‘viral’ and increasing ‘views’ are heading towards cultural distortion. Artists and the entire public must be aware of this,” he said.
Clarifying that being ‘viral’ and being popular and popular are not the same thing, Prime Minister Dahal said that ‘viral’ means infectious spread, which is not a good thing. He said that there are complaints that some of the performances of public fairs are very vulgar and cannot be watched by family and friends together, and he urged to discourage such activities.
