The Press Council of Nepal has taken action against 31 YouTube channel owners (individuals/companies) for transmitting content against journalistic code of conduct in the last 15 days.
The council issued a statement today and said that action has been taken against both those who are registered/registered as media and those who are not. According to the council, action has been taken against those YouTube channel operators who, despite not being registered, spread conflict in the style of news, character assassination and one-sided accusations.
The Council has instructed the three YouTube channels listed under the media to remove and edit the parts that are found to be against the code of conduct, suspend the content and submit an explanation within 24 hours and immediately remove the obscene content.
The instruction has been given to HelloTV Nepal Facebook page, PNP Media and Citizen Paper YouTube channel. It is mentioned in the statement that the Council has initiated action against such YouTube channel owners who are spreading misleading, unlimited, obscene content with violence, terror, baseless, rumourous, exaggerated titles with thumbnails.

According to the Council, correspondence has been sent to Nepal Police (Cyber Bureau) to immediately remove such content and to investigate and take further action against 28 YouTube channels that are not related to the media but transmit obscene content in the style of the media. In the last fiscal year, the council took action against 43 different social media users.
“Press Council Nepal has recently been monitoring the content communicated through social networks, especially YouTube channels, which are affiliated with any media and not.”
The press council of Nepal has drawn the attention of the press council of Nepal for the transmission of content that promotes conflict, the use of abusive language, the transmission of content that incites violence and terror, and the purpose of unnaturally increasing the viewership without factual confirmation.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the council, Balkrishna Basnet, said that action was taken against the YouTube channel according to separate standards. “No baseless, one-sided, misleading and biased content can be given through any means of digital platform. For some time now, we have started taking necessary action to correct and edit the false content disseminated through such channels”, he said.
He informed that different standards have been issued to regulate and take action on YouTube channels. He said that all should be focused on the promotion of the communication sector by making good use of the network and not abusing it.
