Kathmandu. Various organizations have objected to the government’s decision to ban the use of TikTok. Through a press statement on Monday evening, representatives of 30 different organizations have said that the ban on Tiktok is a serious violation of constitutional freedom.
“It is our conclusion that this decision of the Council of Ministers is extremely untimely and arbitrary, and that it seriously attacks the basic principles of democracy and weakens the rule of law and civil liberties,” the press statement said.
They believe that the government’s intention is to limit opportunities to share perspectives and participate in the global digital community. “Furthermore, such bans appear to adversely affect the economic opportunities of content creators and small and medium-sized enterprises, posing a serious risk to their business stability,” they said.
They have requested to reconsider the decision and not to violate the constitutionally protected right to freedom of expression.
