Prolapse is a condition in which the muscles and tissues surrounding the uterus become weak and the uterus descends below its place into the vagina or out of the vagina.
It has been found that this problem is more common among women in hilly and remote areas of Nepal.
Causes of uterine or organ prolapse
1. Not giving birth in a health institution.
2. Pressing the stomach hard to expel the baby or the baby.
3. When giving birth, force the cervix without fully opening.
4. Do heavy lifting and work while in labor.
5. Having a child at a young age.
6. Having many children, keeping pregnancy less than two years.
7. Not getting proper nutritional food and rest for pregnant or postpartum women.
8. Smoking and drinking.
9. Prolonged cough or constipation.
10. Improper tying.
11. Being a victim of sexual and domestic violence and affecting the reproductive organs.
Symptoms of prolapse of the uterus
1. Feeling of discomfort in the vagina or something / lumps coming out.
2.Feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen and vaginal tract.
3. Leaking of urine when coughing, sneezing and feeling like something is coming out of the vagina.
4. Urinary urgency and bladder emptying.
5. Lower stomach and back pain.
6. Feeling uncomfortable during sexual intercourse.
7. When urinating or defecating, having to push the pus from the vagina with the hand.
8. Bleeding and wounding in the pus.
- Prevention of uterine prolapse
1. Don’t give birth at a young age.
2. To maintain pregnancy for at least two years using contraceptives and not to have many children.
3. Eat nutritious food such as vegetables, nuts, milk, fruits, eggs, fish and meat during pregnancy and delivery.
4. Giving birth in a health institution.
5. During pregnancy and childbirth, do not carry heavy loads and rest enough.
6. Pelvic exercise and light physical exercise.
7. No smoking and drinking.
8. Go for a medical examination if you suspect uterine prolapse.
9. In case of prolonged cough and constipation, get tested.
Uterine prolapse treatment
Pelvic exercise:
To strengthen the pelvic muscles, the vagina and the muscles around the vagina should be contracted and released for 10 seconds. This process should be done up to 10 times and 3 times a day for at least 3 months. This exercise can be done at any time while sleeping, standing up or sitting.
Ring Pessary:
A bangle-shaped ring placed inside a woman’s vagina holds the uterus in place. It is suitable for women who do not want surgery and cannot undergo surgery due to other diseases.
A ring pessary can be placed only according to the advice of a health care professional.
Surgery:
Doctors can perform surgery according to the condition of the patient.
