Kathmandu. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has said that his team is aware of New Zealand’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the World Cup semi-finals.
India will face New Zealand in the semi-finals. The Indian team is unbeaten in the tournament so far and defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the league round.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson did not play in the match in Dharamsala due to injury. Williamson said the semi-final will be played in Mumbai and both teams will have an “equal chance”.
Calling New Zealand ‘the most disciplined team’, Rohit Sharma said, ‘They play very smartly. They have played with many of our players. They understand our mentality.”
Rohit Sharma said, ‘We know how they play. We know what their strengths are and what their weaknesses are.” New Zealand defeated India in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup.
When asked if the players of the Indian team look at past performances, Rohit Sharma said, ‘The specialty of this team is that when we won the first World Cup (in 1983), half of the players in the team were not even born. And when (in 2011) we won the second World Cup, half the players weren’t playing.”
The Indian captain said, ‘I don’t see them talking about past games. I see them talking about today and how they can improve themselves.”
Rohit Sharma said that there is pressure of expectation in every match played by the Indian team, not only the semi-final, but the players know how to deal with it.
The Indian team dominated the other teams in the league round, but a loss in the semi-finals will not give them a chance to make a comeback. Rohit Sharma and his players also know this.
Rohit Sharma said, ‘We know the importance of this week. There is no need to do anything different from what we have been doing (so far in the World Cup).”
