Kathmandu, November 11th. The newly appointed Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Golam Sarwar has taken charge. The SAARC Secretariat has informed today (Saturday) that after the SAARC Council of Ministers approved his appointment, he assumed office from last Tuesday.
The newly appointed Secretary General is the 15th Secretary General of SAARC. He is the third diplomatic staff to represent Bangladesh. General Secretary Sarwar, who started the diplomatic service of Bangladesh in 1991, has served as Bangladeshi ambassador in Malaysia, Oman, and Sweden. He has also worked as a diplomatic officer of Bangladesh in Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Yangon and Washington DC.
