Nepali Congress Member of Parliament, Sunil Sharma, has stated that Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal sought his forgiveness through non-judicial means after he was wrongfully arrested by the authorities. Sharma has also demanded the resignation of the Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
Speaking during a parliamentary session on Monday, Sharma mentioned that the Prime Minister did not apologize directly, while the Home Minister did not resign even after his hunger strike and peaceful protests.
He said, “I am a Member of Parliament within the democratic system. I was wrongfully arrested in the gold smuggling case, and after demanding my resignation, I was arrested. Is it acceptable for the Home Minister and Prime Minister to lead a country that is plagued by terrorism? Today, I declare that if the Home Minister doesn’t resign and the Prime Minister doesn’t apologize, I will resort to a hunger strike.”
Sharma claimed that the Home Minister had been silent on the issue of his resignation.
He criticized the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police for wrongfully arresting him and expressed his displeasure.
After the Maoists labeled the Prime Minister and the Home Minister as “terrorist” supporters, the leader of the Maoists, Rishi Ram Kattel, had demanded the removal of the term “terrorist” from the official records. However, Speaker Devraj Ghimire moved the Parliament forward by stating that he only responded with a counterargument.
