Two more individuals have been arrested on charges of gold smuggling from the Tribhuvan International Airport. The Revenue Investigation Department has detained them on Thursday evening, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to ten.
According to the latest information provided by department sources, Krishna Shrestha and Pushkar Raj Bhatt were arrested. Pushkar Raj Bhatt is the director of Pushkar Global Pvt. Ltd. He was summoned to the Customs Office in Tribhuvan International Airport for questioning, and based on his connection to the case, he was also arrested.
Krishna Shrestha was arrested from Koteshwar. Previously, Rajan Shrestha, the proprietor of a company, was also apprehended from the same location.
On Tuesday, approximately one quintal of gold was seized, concealed inside a ‘break shoe,’ which was flown in from Hong Kong. The department has also arrested Ashok Lama, the taxi driver who brought the gold, Bhansar agent Rajendra Rai, Ready Trade Pvt. Ltd. director Dilip Bhujel, assistant Harkaraj Rai, Indian national Thapten Chiring, and Ram Kumar Bhujel in connection with the case. They have been granted ten days of custody for further investigation by the High Court Patan.
Chinese nationals are also among those arrested in connection with the smuggling case.
