A Pakistani national has been arrested for allegedly plotting the assassination of former US President Donald Trump and some politicians.
According to FBI Director Christopher Wray, the assassination plot is directly linked to Iran.
Asif Merchant, 46, is accused of trying to hire a hitman in New York to kill a prominent American politician.
Authorities stepped up security for Trump in June after Iran’s involvement in a plot to assassinate the Republican nominee was discovered.
On Tuesday, the FBI director said foreign plots to assassinate any politician or any American citizen are a threat to our national security, and the FBI will use its full resources to combat it.
Asif Merchant was arrested in July and is currently being held in New York.
