Kathmandu. This year’s Mumbai Film Festival has seen the dominance of Nepali films. The festival, chaired by Priyanka Chopra, announced the lineup on Monday, which includes half a dozen films involving Nepali producer-directors. Gaun Inya Bato, directed by Naveen Subba, which has premiered at world renowned festivals like Toronto and Busan, has been selected in the ‘Icons: South Asia’ section of the festival.

“The Red Suitcase” directed by Fidel Devkota and “Gurans” directed by Saurabh Rai, which had its world premiere in Venice, have been selected in the South Asia Competition category of the festival. What is interesting is that Icefall Production is the producer of both these Nepali films selected in the competitive section.

Producer Ramakrishna Pokharel expressed his happiness that both the films produced by him were selected for the festival. This is more about representation than competition. I have understood this in the sense of representing Nepal through good films,” he said. “Bahadur: The Brave“, a joint investment film of Nepal and India, directed by Diva Shah, has also been selected in the competitive section.

Apart from feature films, Nepali short films have got a place in the festival in this edition. Vidushi Giri’s ‘Chiso Ghar’, Ayarus Poudel’s ‘Helena’ and ‘Windhorse’ have also been selected for the festival. All these three films will have their world premiere and all three are short films. ‘Chiso Ghar’ was produced by Simal Cinema, while the other two films were made in collaboration with the UAE and America.
