Former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who was arrested on Friday evening, will also be investigated for organized crime.
According to the arrest warrant issued by the Kaski District Court on Friday, he will be investigated for organized crime in addition to cooperative fraud.
There is a legal provision that allows anyone arrested for organized crime to be held in custody for up to 60 days for investigation.
It has been indicated that Lamichhane could also be held in custody for 60 days for investigation.
Police officials say that under the authority given by Section 14 of the Organized Crime Prevention Act 2070, Lamichhane may be held in custody for 60 days for investigation.
While investigations into cooperative fraud only allow for custody of up to 24 days, the period of detention can be extended when investigating organized crime.
