London. Barcelona’s contract to sign 13-year-old Lionel Messi on a napkin has been sold at auction for 762,400 pounds (about 13 million rupees). Laminated in a 16.5 by 16.5 cm frame, the starting price of the napkin was 300,000 pounds.
On a napkin signed in December 2000 in blue ink, the then director of Barca, Carles Resach, committed to signing Messi. The contract was also signed by the transfer advisor Josep Minguela and the agent Horacio Gagivali, who recommended the Argentinian youth player.
London-based Bonhams auctioned the contract for Gagioli online. A month after that contract, Messi joined Barcelona.
After that, Messi, who made his debut in the club’s senior team at the age of 16, scored a record 672 goals in 778 games for the club. With Barcelona, Messi won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles.
The 36-year-old world champion player, who left Barcelona and joined PSG in 2021, will currently play professional football for Inter Miami.
