Kathmandu. Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the ICC One Day World Cup cricket tournament held in India today. Pakistan won the match by 6 wickets in Hyderabad. Pakistan has set a record by achieving the highest number of runs in the history of the World Cup. Pakistan completed the target of 345 runs given by Sri Lanka by losing 4 wickets with 10 balls remaining. For Pakistan, opener Abdullah Shafiq and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan made a century. Rizwan scored 131 runs off 121 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Shafiq played an innings of 113 runs in 103 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Similarly, Saud Sakil scored 31 runs in 30 balls while Iftikhar Ahmed scored 22 runs in 10 balls with 4 fours. Captain Babar Azam was dismissed for 10 runs.
Dilshan Madushanaka of Sri Lanka took two wickets, Mahesh Thiksana and Mathisa Pathirana took one wicket each.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Sri Lanka started batting first and made a total of 344 runs after losing nine wickets in the scheduled 50 overs. While batting for Sri Lanka, Kushal Mendis and Sadira Samarawickrama played centuries. Mendis contributed the highest 122 runs. He hit 14 fours and 6 sixes while playing 77 balls. Similarly, Samaravikrama scored one hundred and eight runs. He hit 11 fours and 2 sixes while playing 79 balls. Similarly, Pathum Nisanka scored 51 runs in 61 balls. He hit seven fours and one six during this process. Dhananjay de Silva scored 25 off 34 balls with four fours, captain Dashun Shanaka scored 12 runs and Dunith Velalage scored 10 runs.
On the bowling side, Pakistan’s Hasan Ali scored four, Haris Rauf scored two and Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan scored one each.
