The Gaurikhola Waterfall of Chitwan is situated in Ojhel. However, due to the lack of promotion, publicity, and infrastructure development in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-6, this waterfall remains relatively unknown.
To reach the waterfall, a motorable road has been constructed up to the Khani Village.
From there, it takes about an hour of walking to reach the waterfall. Despite the construction of stairs with railings from Khani Village to make it accessible, there’s still some work left to be completed.
Local resident Gyan Bahadur Magar mentioned that about half of the stairs’ construction is pending.
Information shared by locals reveals that the provincial government allocated a budget of 1.5 million rupees for the construction of a 350-meter-long railing. Even though there are plans to build railings covering a distance of about one kilometer, Gyan Bahadur Magar indicated that the work remains incomplete.
He also stated, “The construction of the railing has resulted in damaging the grass due to the budget constraints.”
Gauri Khola Waterfall has the potential to be developed as a tourist attraction, according to him. He mentioned that the waterfall consists of three segments, and it has been enhanced to attract visitors.
Despite its beauty, reaching the middle segment of the waterfall remains challenging.
The confluence of Rigdi Khola from Khosrepani and Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29’s Dodeni originates at the Gauri Khola Waterfall.
It is situated about five kilometers from the Narayangadh-Muglin highway. Although it takes a two-hour walk from this point to reach the waterfall, the nearby Rigdi Khola contributes to enhancing the picturesque environment, providing a space for activities like swimming, picnics, and fishing.
Kaviraj Gurung, the Chairperson of the Gauri Khola Waterfall Development Committee, stated that due to a lack of budget, the work on preparing the footpath leading to the waterfall is incomplete.
He pointed out that even the construction of stairs is only partially finished. With a budget of 1.5 million rupees, there’s a possibility of completing the construction of stairs and potentially promoting eco-tourism in the well-known Rigdi Khola area, he added.
Dan Bahadur Gurung, the Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, emphasized the need for the development and promotion of Gauri Khola Waterfall as a tourist destination.
He mentioned that the construction of footpaths and promotion activities would commence soon. He stated, “A budget of 2 million rupees has been allocated this year for improving the road access up to the waterfall, covering a distance of nine kilometers.
After the road construction is completed, it will be easier for tourists to reach the waterfall.”
The efforts to connect tourism development and infrastructure are being carried out, aiming for the integrated development of the tourist areas in this region, he concluded.
