Historic Discovery of Talakune Quartz Crystal in Gorkha and Its Significance´
In the house of Ramamaya Shahi in Ward 7 of Gorkha Municipality, Satipipal, a unique and special “Quartz Crystal” has been found and placed under tight security at the district police office. The Department of Mines and Geology has confirmed the discovery of the talakune quartz crystal. Ramamaya Shahi’s family had been worshipping the quartz crystal as a guardian deity of their house for many years. A team of geologists from the Department of Mines and Geology spent two days conducting tests and confirmed that the discovered crystal is indeed a “Quartz Crystal”. According to the classification based on the metal’s hardness in the world, minerals are categorized into 10 levels, and this particular talakune quartz crystal has been ranked as number 7. The geological team not only measured the quartz crystal but also conducted tests on various technical aspects.
What is the use of Quartz Crystal?
The study conducted by the team revealed that the weight of the talakune quartz crystal is approximately 352 grams. Dr. Susmita Bhandari, a geologist specialized in minerals and gemstones, states that Quartz Crystal is mainly used for decoration and making jewelry. Additionally, it is partially used in various electronic devices such as radio transmitters, computers, and watches.
After completing the testing of the crystal, a study report was submitted to the District Administration Office, Gorkha. The report was presented to Krishna Bahadur Rana, the Mayor of Gorkha Municipality, Dinesh Sagar Bhushal, the Chief District Officer, and Sub-Inspector of Police Anupam Shrestha, on Wednesday. The District Administration Office had sent samples of the talakune quartz crystal for testing purposes and had also written a letter to the Department of Mines and Geology. A team consisting of Dr. Bhandari and Durga Bola from the Geological Department of the District had brought the samples to Gorkha for testing.
Demand to Place the Quartz Crystal in Gorkha Kalika Temple
The study team suggests making the ‘Quartz Crystal’ discovered during the study available to the public. On July 14th, the police had seized the crystal from Ramamaya Shahi’s house. As the Shahi family had been worshipping the crystal for years, they have requested various social organizations in Gorkha to place the crystal in the Gorakhnath Temple premises.
Considering the historical importance of the talakune quartz crystal, it’s believed that integrating it into the administration of the Gorakhnath Temple premises in Gorkha Darbar Square would be appropriate. This sacred stone, which is believed to have spiritual significance, could be a part of the consecration and management of the temple. The local residents also suggest that any stone that holds significance in religious practices and rituals should be placed within Gorkha rather than being taken outside the district.
Krishna Bahadur Rana, the Mayor of Gorkha Municipality, has requested the Geological Department team for cooperation and coordination with relevant authorities to keep the stone in Gorkha. He believes that the placement of the talakune quartz crystal in Gorkha would require collaboration with various governmental bodies and agencies.
