Bhattarai noted that Nepal has been labeled as a country known for gold smuggling and highlighted the presence of bordering nations like India and China, which also face similar issues. He questioned how the Revenue Department or the CIAA Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority could seek statements from the Home Minister Finance Minister or Prime Minister’s Office. Despite potential legal obstacles he insisted that the formation of the investigation committee was necessary.
He also highlighted that even larger countries such as the United States and India have high level investigation committes and used examples like the Sudan incident and the Lalita Niwas land scandal to support his argument.
In the case of the Sudan incident the investigation committee formed then led to the involvement of high ranking police officials. In the Lalita Niwas land scandal, the current situation is that former prime ministers might have to face investigation due to the committee, he explained.
