Today, the two mountaineers who successfully climbed 14 Himalayan peaks within three months, establishing a world record, were given a grand welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
The Norwegian climber, Kristin Harila, and Nepali guide, Tenjen (Lama) Sherpa, achieved the feat of conquering the second-highest peak among the 14, Kirtimani Himal, on the 11th of Saun (July). Upon their return they were warmly welcomed at the airport by the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sushila Sirpali Thakuri who praised their accomplishment.
Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism Department Nepal Mountaineering Association and various mountaineering associations were also present at the airport to extend their greetings and respect to the mountaineers.
Nimnur Sherpa the president of the association, shared some details of the majestic reception and cultural extravaganza organized at the airport to honor the achievement of the Kirtimani climbers.
Kristin and Tenjen successfully conquered all 14 peaks within three months, a remarkable achievement. Prior to this, in 2019, Nirmal Purja, a mountaineer, took five days less to complete the same feat.
It is worth noting that Harila and Sherpa are the first female mountaineers to accomplish such a rapid ascent of all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.
Their successful climbs include Sagarmatha (Mount Everest), Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum II, Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak, and Kirtimani Himal.
The Nepal Tourism Board has planned a program to felicitate the Kirtimani climbers in the coming days as well.
