National Independent Party’s President Ravi Lamichhane has stated that it is necessary to form a powerful commission to investigate the Sun corruption case. During the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee held at Singha Durbar on Friday, Lamichhane emphasized the need to establish a powerful commission under the Sun investigation act.
He mentioned that the Sun case involves organized crime, including transnational offenses, which necessitates the formation of a powerful commission. Lamichhane expressed concerns that if not properly handled there is a possibility of the state affairs committee overlooking evidence and allowing suspicious elements to escape in such a significant crime.
Similarly, Congress General Secretary Vishwaprakash Sharma highlighted the need to find a resolution through peaceful means and expressed frustration that the assembly was obstructed by the use of force. He stressed the significance of establishing a setting in the assembly that enables members to express their opinions without any constraints.
Although Sharma acknowledged the depth of the Sun case and the legitimate demands made, he also pointed out that the demands of the opposition should be expressed appropriately without resorting to violence.
Furthermore, MP Krishna Gopal Shrestha, who represents the Communist Party, brought to attention the apprehensive nature of bringing the Sun files from Hong Kong to Brezhum. Despite having suspicions, he suggested that the administration should give heed to this matter. He also raised concerns about the involvement of the Home Minister in the case indicating that it warrants further investigation.
During the meeting, senior committee member Chitra Bahadur K.C. expressed fears that the state power might be involved in corruption and looting necessitating a thorough investigation to draw conclusions.
