Madhyapur Thimi Municipality has begun road maintenance work inside the Chitwan National Park. Due to the rough condition of the road during the monsoon season the residents were forced to travel through the Sasti area. However the municipality has taken the initiative to fund the work internally to move the project forward.
The Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality Tarakumari Kaji Mahato provided information about the ongoing nine-kilometer road maintenance work from Kasara to Reus. This road segment is the only road that connects Madhyapur Thimi to Bharatpur. Traveling on this road inside the national park poses risks including encountering wildlife.
The Mayor stated that they started the road maintenance work from internal resources after not receiving the budget from the federal and provincial governments. She also mentioned that road maintenance will bring convenience to the citizens once it is completed.
The Mayor assured that the road maintenance work will be completed within a week. However despite the upgrading of this road section and election promises the long-standing issues related to the road have not been addressed yet.
While the Chitwan National Park has approved the road maintenance for environmental impact assessment purposes Mayor Mahato mentioned that there have been delays in the work. Even after requesting the federal government repeatedly the work did not move forward. This road is used by daily commuters and has been a subject of discussion during each election campaign. However a long-term solution to the problem remains elusive.
In summary, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality has taken the initiative to fund the maintenance of the road inside the Chitwan National Park.
The work has started, and the municipality hopes to complete it within a week. However despite the approval and promises, there have been delays in the work and a permanent solution to the road’s issues is yet to be implemented.
