Due to the obstruction of rural roads in Myagdi, there are difficulties in pedestrian travel and transportation services. The blocked roads have significantly affected the operation of transportation vehicles and have led to the deaths of passengers.
To improve the situation, it is necessary to prioritize the construction of new roads rather than just repairing existing ones. Most rural roads in the district become impassable during the monsoon season, leading to risky journeys for the locals. The affected areas include Devisthan, Mudi, Muna, Okharbot, Dichhyam, Rum, Niskot, among others.
The difficult operation of transportation vehicles on the Dharwang-Okharbot road is due to the pressure from the locals to operate even when the road is blocked.
Furthermore, in Dhawalagiri and Mangala rural municipalities, blocked roads have caused difficulties in transporting agricultural produce to the markets.
The chairman of Malika Rural Municipality-5, Devisthan, highlighted that despite regular maintenance, the roads become unusable in a day due to landslides. Therefore, they are preparing to conduct proper maintenance and road improvement after the monsoon.
Amrit Sapkota, a businessman from Dharwang, mentioned that even after allocating a budget for road construction from the government, the roads are not properly managed, leading to difficulties for vehicles to pass.
In the past, most rural areas did not have proper road connections, but now many villages have access to roads. However, the construction of roads without proper engineering has caused environmental and physical damage. The scenic beauty of the villages has been negatively impacted.
The locals express their dissatisfaction with the quality of the roads despite significant budget allocations for road construction. The roads become practically unusable during the rainy season, making it essential for people to carry daily essential goods by foot.
In conclusion, while the construction of rural roads has brought development and changes to the local lifestyle, the quality and maintenance need to be improved to ensure the safety and convenience of the villagers.
