Members of the Waorani indigenous community demonstrate for peace, for nature and to promote a Yes vote in an upcoming referendum to end oil drilling in the Yasuni National Park, in the commercial area in northern Quito on August 14, 2023. A caravan of indigenous people and environmentalists will travel through several provinces of Ecuador until Wednesday to promote a Yes vote in a popular consultation that seeks to stop oil exploitation in an important block of the Yasuní National Park, a rich biosphere reserve. On August 20, along with general elections, Ecuadorans in the Quito Metropolitan District (DMQ) will also vote on whether to halt the exploitation of crude oil within the reserve.
