The Nepali National U-19 Cricket Team won the ACC U-19 Premier Cup by 274 runs against Iran on Thursday. Captain Dev Khanal played a century innings in Nepal’s victory. Batting first, Nepal lost all wickets in 40.1 overs and made a huge total of 353 runs.
In reply, Nepal won by a wide margin when Iran was restricted to 79 runs in 30.4 overs. At the UKM Cricket Oval in Malaysia, Nepal’s captain Dev contributed 100 runs with the help of 12 fours and four sixes after facing only 60 balls. Dev completed his century in 59 balls. After scoring a century, he returned to the pavilion with the ball he faced. He is the first player in Nepal’s U-19 cricket history to score two centuries in international cricket. Earlier, he played a 125-run century against Kuwait in the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia Zone Qualifier.
Deepesh Kandel bowled lethally to bowl Iran out for a low total. He took three wickets for just four runs in seven overs. Subas Bhandari took 6 runs to get three wickets. He bowled 8.5 overs. Hemant Dhami and Akash Chand dismissed the same two players from Iran.
In the innings following the target, Iran’s opener Amir Khorasand scored the highest 37 runs. He hit five sixes and one four off 22 balls. He shared a 36-run partnership with Saman Shekhi for the first wicket. In 6.6 overs, Subas gave Nepal its first success. He dismissed Shekhi for five runs.
Nepal’s poor start
Nepal, who lost the toss and batted, did not start quickly. Opener Arjun Kumal returned to the pavilion for zero runs. Similarly, third-ranked Akash Tripathi was dismissed for three runs. Iranian bowlers dominated Nepal after losing wickets continuously. However, the fourth order batsman and captain Dev handled the innings.
He took Nepal to a strong position by sharing 166 runs with Deepak Bohora for the third wicket. Bohora scored 65 off 59 balls. Deepak Prasad Dumre and Dipesh Kandel shared a partnership of 91 runs for the fifth wicket. Deepak Prasad added 69 runs off 44 balls.
